What is Sjögren’s Disease?

Sjögren's Disease, also referred to as Sjögren's Syndrome, is a systemic autoimmune disease that manifests typically with dryness symptoms in the eyes and mouth. This condition arises from an autoimmune response targeting the glands responsible for tear and saliva production. Interestingly, some patients with Sjögren's Disease may not experience prominent dry eye or mouth symptoms. Sjögren's Disease can extend far #BeyondDryness, affecting various body systems such as the nervous system, lungs, joints, teeth, and kidneys. Late-stage complications may involve severe dental deterioration, blindness, and even non-Hodgkin lymphoma. As one of the most prevalent systemic autoimmune diseases, Sjögren's Disease primarily affects post-menopausal women and can coexist with other autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
